Vol. 431 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Alan Shatter

Question:

124 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education her views on the failure of her Department to transfer certain staff to the Revenue Commissioners under the Government's decentralisation programme to the mid-west; the reason she has adopted this position; and if she will make a statement on the implications of this approach both for the staff involved and for the programme of decentralisation to the mid-west.

The transfers in question were offered by the Revenue Commissioners and, as such, are essentially a matter for the Commissioners to implement. My Department has been willing at all times to facilitate the transfers. Certain difficulties which did arise have been resolved and I understand that the Commissioners are now proceeding with the transfers.
