Written Answers - Student Statistics.

Ivor Callely

Question:

91 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the percentage of students who remained in formal education after 14 years of age for each of the years 1952, 1962, 1972, 1982 and 1992.

It is estimated that 96.6 per cent of 14 year old pupils who were enrolled in full-time education in the 1990-91 academic year remained in full-time education for a minimum of one further academic year after reaching the age of 14. The equivalent percentages in respect of 1972-73 and 1982-83 are 86.4 and 93.1 respectively. Corresponding data are not available in respect of the 1952-53 and 1962-63 academic years.
