Vol. 432 No. 1

Written Answers. - Equality and Law Reform Legislation.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

199 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if he will give the titles of all legislation introduced to date concerning his Department and any legislation currently being drafted; the plans, if any, he has to introduce future legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have given the information sought relating to divorce and family law reform in my reply on 1 June 1993 to questions from Deputies Proinsias De Rossa and Desmond J. O'Malley.

With regard to other legislative proposals, a Bill is being drafted at present to provide an entitlement to adoptive leave for working mothers. My Department is also developing proposals for future legislation in relation to (1) employment equality; (2) equal status in the non-employment areas; (3) updating the law regarding registration of births, marriages and deaths; (4) amending the Interpretation Act, 1937, to allow the feminine gender to be used where appropriate; (5) national law to implement the EC Directive on pregnant workers.
