Vol. 432 No. 1

Written Answers. - Third Level Education.

Martin Cullen

Question:

83 Mr. Cullen asked the Minister for Education the progress, if any, which has been made in establishing, through the Higher Education Authority, the promised urgent review of the future needs in respect of third level places in institutions in Ireland.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

236 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education when the promised review on provision of additional third level facilities will commence; if she is in a position to announce the composition of the review body; and if she will ensure that particular regard is paid to the County Dublin areas in view of the promises made over the past 20 years.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 83 and 236 together.

My intention is that the needs analysis or review referred to by the Deputy will be carried out under the aegis of the Higher Education Authority.

My Department is in consultation with the Authority in the matter and is in the process of finalising the terms of reference for the review. I would, therefore, anticipate that the review will commence in the near future.

As I indicated during private Members' time on 23 March the review will examine the needs of different regions.
