Vol. 432 No. 2

Written Answers. - Office Supplies and Equipment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

82 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the degree to which Irish manufactured office supplies and equipment, including computer supplies, are provided to his Department or to offices the estimate for which falls within his group; the extent to which such requirements are met by overseas manufacturers where Irish alternatives exist; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department purchases office supplies and equipment, including computer supplies, on the basis of competitive tendering. Having regard to price and quality, departmental policy is to opt for items of Irish manufacture.

In so far as the question relates to State bodies coming under the aegis of my Department, the information sought is a matter for the day to day administration of the bodies concerned, and is not, therefore, a matter in which I have a direct function.
