Vol. 432 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Garda Station.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

55 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works has provided the necessary additional information to enable the refurbishment of a Garda Station in County Tipperary to commence; if he will give details of any such information; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that the Deputy's question relates to Grangemockler Garda Station, County Tipperary.

The only requirements communicated to my Office by the Garda in respect of Grangemockler Garda Station relate to a problem with the chimney in the married quarters, which was reported to the Office of Public Works District Inspector in Thurles by the local Garda Superintendent on 25 March, 1993.

Because of alterations made to this chimney many years ago it is very difficult to clean. To do so requires the attention of a builder. The chimney has been cleaned in this way over the years at a reasonable cost. In the current instance the Garda Superintendent was advised that the chimney should be again cleaned in this way. However, a subsequent request was received from the Superintendent asking that the chimney be examined with a view to finding a more permanent solution to the problem.

This is being done and, when the results of the examination are to hand, they will be conveyed to the gardaí without delay.
