Vol. 432 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sex Education Circular.

Ivor Callely

Question:

95 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education if she has any proposals to update her Department's publication Guidelines on the Development of Sex-Relationships Education; if she has received submissions on the publication; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I have no specific proposals to update the circular issued to post-primary schools regarding guidelines on the development of sex-relationships education as the general principles outlined in that circular are still relevant.

However, the question of updating, amplifying, etc., a circular of that nature is kept under continuous review and, indeed separate material was subsequently issued to schools on allied matters, for example, AIDS education in post-primary schools and the set of educational resource materials on HIV-AIDS for post-primary schools as a result of co-operation between the Departments of Health and Education.
