Vol. 432 No. 6

Written Answers. - Abattoirs Act.

Michael Ferris

Question:

171 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the cost to the ratepayers for each council to operate the Abattoirs Act; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I do not have details of the costs incurred by each local authority in operating the Abattoirs Act.

In general each local authority is required to appoint at least one whole time Veterinary Inspector, the salary scale for whom ranges from £26,821 to £36,182 per annum. Income to meet this expenditure is generated by the collection of inspection fees on animals slaughtered.
