Vol. 434 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Kerry School Transport.

John O'Leary

Question:

141 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made for the post-primary school bus to collect post-primary schoolchildren on the Kilsarcon Road from Counguilla Cross to Ballahantourigh Cross, through the recently improved Kilsarcon Road, to Currow village and on to Castleisland post-primary schools in County Kerry; and if she will make a statement on the matter, in view of the fact that the pupils on the Kilsarcon Road are not facilitated at present.

My Department has been informed by the transport liaison officer that the rerouting which the Deputy seeks could now be effected without either incurring extra cost or discommoding current eligible users of the service.

However, Bus Éireann have reported that trees overhanging the Kilsarcon Road are dangerously obscuring turnings and bends. Until this hazard to safety is removed, no change can be made to the existing service. I believe that this is the responsibility of the county council.
