Vol. 434 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Waterford Flooding.

Godfrey Timmins

Question:

104 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the severe damage to roads in County Waterford caused by recent heavy rains, in particular on Friday, 8 October 1993, he will make a special allocation available to Waterford County Council to help alleviate the problem.

Waterford County Council, and local authorities generally, are aware that the cost of remedial works arising from damage to public roads caused by heavy rains, in the case of non-national roads, must be met from the discretionary grants for these roads and, in the case of national roads, from the maintenance grants for these roads. It is a matter for each authority to make reasonable provision for such contingencies when preparing their annual road works programme.
