Vol. 434 No. 10

Written Answers. - Commercial Ports Funding.

Michael Finucane

Question:

93 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Marine if he will give details of the EC funding provided for commercial ports under the National Development Plan 1994-1999; if he will give the anticipated amount of EC funding under the National Development Plan 1994-1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the Operational Programme on Peripherality 1989 to 1993, an investment programme in our commercial ports of approximately £76 million is now nearing completion. Approximately £34 million in EC grant aid will be provided towards that investment programme.

The National Development Plan 1994-1999 provides for an investment programme of £100 million in the strategic ports of Cork, Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Rosslare, Waterford and the Shannon Estuary ports of Limerick and Foynes and in a number of regional ports. EC aid in respect of that programme is not finalised as yet, but is expected to be in the region of £50 million to £60 million.
