Vol. 434 No. 10

Written Answers. - Shannon Estuary Development.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

94 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Marine if he has any plans to establish port facilities on the Tarbet/Ballylongford land bank in County Kerry in view of the additional funds available for port development in the National Development Plan 1994-1999.

A project team, under the chairperson of SFADCo, is currently examining proposals for the development of the Shannon Estuary as a major European economic trading bridgehead. When these proposals are received they will be examined in the context of plans for the development of ports generally in the Shannon Estuary. In this regard, it should be noted that the National Development Plan identifies the development of port facilities in the Shannon Estuary as being a priority.
