Vol. 434 No. 10

Written Answers. - Fenit Port (Kerry) Development.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

95 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Marine if he has any plans to provide funding for the development of Fenit Port, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

State funding of £70,000 has been approved for Fenit Harbour this year. The Tralee and Fenit Pier and Harbour Commissioners have already received £10,000 of this sum in connection with pier maintenance works. These works are being carried out at present at the harbour in conjunction with a Social Employment Scheme.

A maximum of £60,000 has also been approved for Fenit Harbour this year in connection with essential maintenance dredging. Dredging is due to commence within the next few weeks and the grant will be paid on completion of the dredging programme.

The Commissioners have put forward proposals for major development works in the context of the allocation of Structural Funds for period 1994/1999. These proposals are at present being examined in consultation with the Commissioners.
