Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - Maynooth (Kildare) School Extension.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

244 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education when architectural plans for an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Kildare will be completed by her Department; if her attention has been drawn to the widespread concern of parents and teachers at the delay in the commencement of the extension; if her attention has further been drawn to the overcrowded conditions pertaining in the school; and if she will give an assurance that this project will be included in the 1994 capital programme with a view to it being completed for the commencement of the 1994 academic year.

I am aware of the urgent need for additional accommodation at this school.

An outline sketch scheme has been prepared by a design team employed by County Kildare Vocational Education Committee. My Department is now authorising the vocational education committee to have detailed drawings, specifications and tender documentation prepared as soon as possible. While I am not in a position to say when this documentation will be completed it could be ready within a period of months.

This is one of the projects which will be considered for inclusion in the 1994 capital programme. A decision on the projects to proceed to contract in 1994 will be taken when the allocation for 1994 has been approved. The accommodation could be made available for the 1994-95 school year if the project is included in the 1994 programme.
