Vol. 435 No. 10

Written Answers. - Commissioning of Reports-Inquiries.

Peter Barry

Question:

126 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Defence if his Department has been responsible for commissioning reports and/or inquiries over the past five years; if so, the nature and number of these; their cost; the number published or awaiting publication.

The Commission on Remuneration and Conditions of Service in the Defence Forces was established in 1989. During its work, the commission was provided with staff from the Department of Finance at an estimated cost of approximately £60,000. The report of the commission to the Minister for Defence was published in July 1990. The majority of the recommendations set out in the report, including all of its recommendations regarding pay and allowances, have now been implemented.
