Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Donal Carey

Question:

158 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the hardship that is being caused to small farmers with split holdings, who are awaiting headage and other EC grants; and if he will have arrangements made to bring them forward in 1993 as they have been at the end of a long queue for a long number of years.

I am aware of the problem raised by the Deputy which relates to farmers whose lands are divided between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged areas. This situation creates certain complications in the processing of these applications which results in payments issuing somewhat later than payments in other cases.

Arrangements are being put in place to resolve the processing difficulty. Payments will issue along with the other headage payments from 1994. In the meantime, I have asked that 1993 cases be dealt with as speedily as possible.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

159 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if a person, who owns cattle which were born in March 1992, can apply for the 22 months cattle premium before the end of November 1993.

Applicants can apply under the 22-month November 1993 special beef premium scheme only in respect of male cattle born on or before 31 January 1992 and which have not already been submitted for the 22 month premium.
