Phil Hogan

Question:

62 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Justice when her plans for reform of the penal system will be published.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 21, 33 and 62 together.

As I have indicated on a number of occasions already, I am at present in the course of carrying out a review of the penal system which I hope to complete shortly. This review involves an examination of the use of and need for extra custodial accommodation. Decisions that may be made as a consequence of the review, including the optimum use of prison spaces, will be announced in due course.
