Vol. 436 No. 3

Written Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) New Garda Barracks.

Michael Bell

Question:

81 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the allocations to her Department under the National Development Plan 1994-1999, she will now indicate when the building of the new Garda Barracks in Drogheda, County Louth will commence, the estimated cost and the approximate time schedule for the completion of the work; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

As I stated in my reply to Question No. 58 on 30 June 1993, it is proposed to build a new district headquarters at Drogheda on the Murdock Yard site which has been purchased by the Office of Public Works for this development.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that detailed planning for the new station is proceeding and that the Office of Public Works hopes to be in a position to invite tenders for the project at the end of the year with a view to placing a contract as soon as possible thereafter.

It is not possible to give information about the completion date or cost of this project at this stage. The Deputy can be assured that the project is being advanced as quickly as possible and that there will be no avoidable delay.
