Vol. 436 No. 3

Written Answers. - Leinster Potato Growers.

Robert Molloy

Question:

93 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he has met representatives of potato growers in Leinster; if so, the assurances he gave them; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I met an IFA delegation representing the potato and horticulture industries on 14 October to discuss the problem of potato growers in Leinster. I assured them that I would give consideration to the matter.

The Deputy will be aware that I have since announced the establishment of a fund of £1 million out of which potato and horticultural growers most seriously affected by the inclement weather during the summer, and whose viability is threatened, will be assisted.
