Vol. 436 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dog Licence Charge.

Ivor Callely

Question:

142 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment when the £5 dog licence charge was introduced; the proposals, if any, he has to increase the charge; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The £5 dog licence fee was introduced on 1 January 1984. The Control of Dogs (Amendment) Act, 1992 provides for an increase in the fee to £10, to be activated by ministerial order. I have delayed the introduction of this increase until the Working Group I set up earlier this year to examine the possibility of introducing a national registration-identification scheme for dogs has reported.
