Vol. 437 No. 1

Written Answers. - MMDS Cost.

Máirín Quill

Question:

49 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the minimum cost, the average cost and the maximum cost per household in relation to MMDS; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will appreciate that the production of average figures for households from the 10 MMDS franchises across the country is complicated by factors such as varying installation and rental charges, discounts and phased payment systems. However, if we take the basic annual rental, the information available to me is that the lowest charge is £84 a year in Sligo, the maximum charge is paid in Cork and West Waterford — £140.48 a year, and a rough average of the annual charges levied by the six companies holding MMDS licences would be about £123 a year.
