Vol. 437 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cork Airport Marketing Budget.

Bernard Allen

Question:

54 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will allocate a marketing budget to Cork Airport in view of the difference between the marketing budgets available to its competitor airports.

The promotion and marketing of the three State airports is a matter for Aer Rianta as part of its day-to-day management and operation of the airports.

There are no funds available to me for the marketing of Cork Airport.

Aer Rianta allocates an amount for traffic development purposes to Cork airport. I understand that the expected out-turn for the promotional budget in 1993 is expected to be £116,000 of which £106,000 has been expended to date. The budgeted figure for 1994 is £122,000. The expenditure is used to consolidate existing traffic and to encourage and promote new routes and inbound/outbound charter traffic.

Aer Rianta Teoranta is currently investigating new marketing initiatives with Cork local interests.
