Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

John Bruton

Question:

177 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance whether the National Development Plan 1994-1999, submitted by the Irish Government to the EC for approval for the period 1994-1999, complies in full with the EC requirement in regard to employment measures which require that the plan should contain the detailed figures concerning imbalances between demand and supply in employment, including female employment, the nature and characteristics of unfilled vacancies, employment opportunities which exist on labour markets, the type of measures to be implemented and other precise details which do not apparently appear in the National Development Plan, 1994-1999 as published.

All aspects referred to by the Deputy are covered in the National Development Plan, some in more general terms than others. Information, supplementary to that contained in the Plan, has been supplied to the European Commission at its request. In particular, an analysis of trends in the labour market has been forwarded. The Operational Programme for Human Resources, which is now being finalised, will outline in considerable detail the content, objectives and proposed expenditure profile of the different measures which make up the chapter on the Development of Human Resources.
