Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - Exemption Thresholds.

Ivan Yates

Question:

215 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance the cost of raising the income tax exemption threshold to £100 for a single person and £200 for a married couple in 1994.

It is assumed that the Deputy's question relates to the cost of raising the thresholds to the equivalent of £100 single and £200 married per week. On that basis the full year cost to the Exchequer, estimated by reference to the income tax year 1994-95, arising from the increases proposed is £109 million. It is assumed that the increases relate to the general exemption limits only.
