Vol. 438 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Deenihan — the lack of adequate transport for children from the Castleisland area to Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí, Tralee, County Kerry; (2) Deputy Ó Cuív — the reason boarding grants for second-level education are means-tested having regard to the principle of free education and in view of the hardship caused to island communities and other isolated rural communities; (3) Deputy Boylan — the need for the Minister for Education to reconsider her decision not to build a new school in Ballinagh, County Cavan, in view of the substandard conditions prevailing at the existing school and the danger to the children and staff at the school; (4) Deputy Durkan — the subject matter of Parliamentary Question No. 56 of 4 November 1993, in relation to the importation of a motor vehicle and subsequent imposition of duty; (5) Deputy Finucane — the urgent need for repairs to the roof and other reconstruction work at Adare girls' primary school, County Limerick; (6) Deputy Brendan Smith — the provision of a new national school on a greenfield site at Ballinagh, County Cavan; (7) Deputy Shatter — the potential damage to the prospects for future adoptions and the distress caused to Irish couples who have adopted Romanian children as a result of recent newspaper reports falsely alleging that 18 of these children had been abandoned to health board care; and the need for an investigation into the origins of these reports.

The matters raised by the following have been selected for discussion: Deputies Shatter; Deenihan; Ó Cuív and Boylan.
