Question:

284 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health the projected cost of salaries, allowances and other such payments for the offices of programme managers / special advisers / ministerial assistants and other such offices under his aegis as at January 1993; the outturn for the year ending 31 December 1993; the projected expenditure under this heading in 1994; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Health (Mr. Howlin)

The cost of salaries, including allowances, of the Partnership Programme Manager, my Special Adviser, Personal Assistant and Personal Secretary for 1993 and 1994 are as follows:

While my Partnership Programme Manager and my Special Adviser are on the same annual salary, the above figures reflect their different starting dates in 1993. In addition, the arrears of theProgramme for Economic and Social Progress are included in the projected 1994 figures for all but my Personal Secretary, whose arrears were paid in 1993.

285 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the projected cost of salaries, allowances and other such payments for the offices of programme managers / special advisers / ministerial assistants and other such offices under her aegis as at January 1993; the outturn for the year ending 31 December 1993; the projected expenditure under this heading in 1994; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach)

As appointments in the areas referred to by the Deputy were proceeded with over a period of time following the formation of the Government, a specific allocation for salaries and allowances was not decided in January 1993.

The expenditure on the above posts for the year ending 31 December, 1993 was £167,365.

The projected expenditure for the year 1994 on the above is £199,673.

The above figures include appointments in the Minister of State's Office.
