56 Miss Quill asked the Minister for the Environment the number of arts officers currently employed in local authorities; the number of additional such officers who have been appointed since his coming to office; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The creation and filling of these posts is a matter for the local authorities in the first instance. I understand that arts officers have now been appointed by seventeen of the major local authorities; four of these appointments have been made during my term of office. Arrangements are currently being made for the filling of posts in a further three local authorities.
