Vol. 439 No. 5

Written Answers. - Irish Language Scholarships.

Helen Keogh

Question:

217 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education the provisions made to facilitate Leaving Certificate students for Irish language scholarships (trí Ghaeilge) and a choice of third level college dependent on whether or not they attain such a scholarship.

I am currently having the above scholarship scheme reviewed in my Department in consultation with Roinn na Gaeltachta and I will advise the Deputy of the outcome of this review in due course.

It is intended to issue the scholarship scheme by the beginning of May this year. This will enable candidates for the Trí Ghaeilge scholarships to exercise their CAO options, before the "change of mind" date of 1 July, in full knowledge of all the conditions of the scheme particularly those relating to the third level courses a successful scholarship candidate must pursue in order to qualify for the award of the scholarship.
