Vol. 439 No. 7

Written Answers. - Employment Law.

Paul Bradford

Question:

67 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the plans, if any, he has to amend the regulations governing the employment of au pairs; and if he will allow au pairs from South America to work in Ireland.

Employment law relating to conditions of employment generally applies to persons engaged under a contract of service. Au pairs do not normally fall within this definition and consequently are not comprehended by legislation governing conditions of employment nor are the host families required to hold work permits in respect of them. I have no plans to alter this situation.
