Vol. 439 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Building Improvements.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

97 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education if, in relation to the recent budget announcement of specific funding for second level school buildings, she will accord the highest priority to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 10 having regard to the conditions there; and if she will make a statement confirming a 1994 commencement of remedial work.

The school in question has applied for a grant towards the cost of major improvements to the school building and the conversion of the adjacent convent building to provide additional accommodation for the school. The proposals involve a large amount of capital expenditure which can only be considered in the context of meeting the long term needs of the school and the area generally. These needs are currently being considered and a decision will be taken on the matter as soon as possible. Meanwhile it has been agreed to provide a grant for urgent window replacement.
