Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

20 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Justice her views on the 12 per cent reduction over last year represented by the 1994 provision of £721,000 for office machinery and supplies for the courts; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 18 and 20 together.

The 1993 office machinery and other office supplies subhead of the Courts Vote contained provision for the once-off purchase and supply of a sophisticated high-technology mailing system together with specialised sorting systems for the service of summons by post, at an estimated cost of £280,000. The following are the amounts provided for in the subhead over the three-year period 1992-1994: 1992, £527,000; 1993, £821,000; 1994, £721,000.
