I did not represent the Government at any St. Patrick's Day celebrations abroad.
I participated in Bórd Fáilte and Bord Trachtála promotions in England around the St. Patrick's Day period, the costs of which will be met, as is the norm, by the agencies concerned.

Question:82 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the total cost of ministerial trips from his Department's Vote in conjunction with St. Patrick's day celebrations throughout the world.
In my capacity as Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications, I took part in the review of the annual St. Patrick's Day parade, New York in the United States of America. It is too early yet for my Department to have the full details of costs involved but they are estimated to total £12,000.

Question:83 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the total cost of ministerial trips from his Department's Vote in conjunction with St. Patrick's day celebrations throughout the world.
As I indicated in reply to a previous Question on 9 March 1994, I had arranged to be in the United States, on a private visit, over the St. Patrick's Day period.
I was requested to represent the Government at the St. Patrick's Day parade in Chicago and I acceded to the request.
The cost to the Department of my attendance at the parade was about £1,000.
