Vol. 440 No. 8

Written Answers. - Defence Forces' Property.

Tony Gregory

Question:

56 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Defence if the relevant authorities in the Defence Forces will arrange for a property (details supplied) in Dublin 7 to be relet, in view of the fact that it is empty and semi derelict for some time and a source of upset to local residents; and if the disused laneway at the rear of premises (details supplied) in Dublin 7 will be fenced off for security reasons as requested by the residents.

A tender in respect of the sale of the premises in question was recently accepted by the Department of Defence and the legal formalities governing the sale are at present in train.

With regard to the question of fencing off the laneway referred to, the position is that the laneway in question provides a right of rear access to all four premises at this location. A sale has recently been completed in respect of one of the premises and following the completion of the sale of the above mentioned premises together with one other which is presently in process, one premises will still remain in the ownership of the Department. There is reserved out of the sales of each of the three premises an all purpose right-of-way along the laneway in favour of the occupants of the remaining premises. As it is necessary to reserve the right-of-way in favour of the occupants of all of the properties the Department may not, therefore, fence off the laneway.
