Question:

158 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health the number of persons who were placed under the scheme for subsidised employment for persons with a disability during each year of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress; the targets which has been set for the Programme for Competitiveness and Work 1994-1997.

The number of persons with a disability who were placed under the employment support scheme for people with disabilities during each year of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress was as follows: 1990, 7; 1991, 33; 1992, 53; 1993, 120.

There are currently 208 participants on the employment support scheme and I have made provision for an increase in funding from £330,000 in 1993 to £500,000 in 1994 for this scheme. While no specific targets have been set for this scheme under the Programme for Competitiveness and Work, I am confident that the numbers will continue to increase steadily.
