Vol. 441 No. 3

Written Answers - Promotion of Dublin Regional Tourism.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

133 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the plans, if any, he has to expand the number of tourist visiting and staying in Dublin; and if he has satisfied himself that the Dublin region is being adequately marketed as a tourist location abroad in view of the evident unhappiness of Dublin local authorities on this matter.

The trend of visitors to Dublin has been on an upward curve over the past few years. To give an even greater push, I have asked that a special promotional focus be placed on Dublin in the context of the new, extended, campaigns within Britain and mainland Europe which are now being put in place by Bord Fáilte in co-operation with my Department.

Furthermore, Dublin tourism itself has been particularly active in marketing Dublin as a venue for short weekend breaks and has achieved some notable breakthroughs.
