Question:

139 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the situation that exists at Ballyhaise national school, Ballyhaise, County Cavan due to excessive overcrowding and the poor condition of the school building and prefabs; when a new school will be provided for the children of Ballyhaise and the catchment area; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Brendan Smith

Question:

157 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Education the result of her investigation into the need for additional classrooms at St. Mary's national school, Ballyhaise, County Cavan; the information, if any, sought from the board of management in the course of the investigation; if a senior inspector from her Department has met with the board of management; if not, when such a meeting will take place; if five permanent classrooms of proper standard will be provided at this school; and if she will have arrangements made to include this project in the 1995 primary schools capital programme.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 139 and 157 together.

My Department is currently investigating the need for additional accommodation at St. Mary's primary school, Ballyhaise, County Cavan. My Department's building inspector will meet with the chairman of the board of management in the near future. When his report has been considered, a decision will be conveyed to the chairman.
