63 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice if an individual medical filing system will be introduced for the medical records of prisoners in Mountjoy Prison as recommended by the director of the prison medical services at the Department of Justice three years ago.
The maintenance of proper individual medical files on prisoners is essential for professional and operational reasons. I am aware that the Director of the Prisons Medical Services has been taking steps to ensure that they will be maintained in all prisons for all prisoners. The Department has been glad to facilitate the medical people involved in this matter in every way it can.
