Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Leixlip (Kildare) School.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

211 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education whether she will allocate funding towards the provision of gym facilities at Coláiste Chiaráin, Leixlip, County Kildare; if she has received submissions requesting such funding; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has previously received submissions requesting the provision of funding towards a physical education hall at this school.

Due to demands on the capital resources available, priority has been given for some time to the provision of essential teaching spaces. As a result it is not possible in present circumstances to grant-aid the provision of physical education halls at existing schools which are without such facilities.

Provision of PE halls in such schools will resume as soon as pressure on available resources for classroom accommodation has eased.
