116 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the present condition of the pier in Crosshaven is inhibiting the development of seaangling; and if he will enter into discussions with Bord Fáilte to ensure that the Crosshaven pier development is fully implemented before March 1995. Question:

117 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Marine when he will sanction a grant for the repair and extension of Crosshaven Pier; if his attention has been drawn to the danger of a loss of sea angling business because of the condition of the pier; and if he will instruct his Department to enter into discussions with Bord Fáilte to ensure that repairs are carried out before March 1995. [2426/94]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 116 and 117 together.

I am aware of the concerns regarding the condition of the pier at Crosshaven, County Cork. I recently met with a deputation from the area, who are due to return to me with further views on the topic in due course.

The landing facilities at Crosshaven pier are part owned by Cork County Council and part owned by Cork Harbour Commissioners. These bodies are responsible for the repair and maintenance of their respective parts. I note the Deputy's concern and will bring the matter to the attention of both bodies. The provision of any grant aid for development works at Crosshaven in the future is subject to agreement being reached between the council and the commissioners on future maintenance responsibilities.
