Vol. 447 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Civics Syllabus.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

32 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education, having regard to a recently published suggestion (details supplied), if she will furnish each pupil in the year leading up to the junior certificate examinations with a copy of Bunreacht na hÉireann; and if she will recommend that the allocation of teaching time should include the more important features of the text. [3640/94]

Civics is a compulsory subject for all junior cycle pupils. As the Constitution is one of the topics to be studied on that syllabus pupils can be expected to have access to a copy of Bunreacht na hÉireann and to be familiar with it. Accordingly, I do not propose to circulate a copy of Bunreacht na hÉireann as requested by the Deputy.
