Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Admission to a Second Level College.

Tony Gregory

Question:

147 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if her Department has received a submission from the teaching staff of a boys' national school (details supplied) in Dublin 7 regarding the testing procedures for admission of pupils to a second level college (details supplied) in Dublin 7; her views on whether these procedures are in contravention with her Department's Circular M51/93; the steps, if any, she proposes to take in response to the submission; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1012/95]

My Department has received the submission in question. As a result of a preliminary investigation of the matter, there are grounds for believing that there may be a breach of the terms of Circular M51/93 on the part of the second level college. In accordance with the provisions of the circular, the monitoring committee for the sector considered the case with a view to resolving the difficulty following consultation, where necessary, with the school trustees. This process has not yet been completed.
