Vol. 448 No. 2

Written Answers. - Aer Lingus Route Profitability.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

132 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the increased/decreased profitability of Aer Lingus over the past three years on the North America route, on the United Kingdom route and other European routes. [1777/95]

Aer Lingus has informed me that the information on route profitability requested is commercially sensitive and for that reason they do not believe it would be appropriate for this information to be provided.

Aer Lingus publishes its annual report operating profit/loss for transatlantic and intra European air transport operations, which includes the United Kingdom. The 1992-93 annual report showed a loss of £10.064 million on intra European operations and a loss of £12.923 million on transatlantic operations which was a deterioration of £3.351 million and £3.457 million respectively on the previous year.

As the accounts for the period ended 31 December 1994 have not yet been published, corresponding information for subsequent periods is not available.
