Vol. 448 No. 4

Written Answers. - Museum Venue.

Ivor Callely

Question:

99 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the progress, if any, he has made towards locating a museum venue at the Custom House Docks site, Dublin 1: the time schedule for such a development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2211/95]

Proposals to locate a division of the National Museum of Ireland at the Custom House Docks site were considered from 1988 until 1992 and plans were developed during this period. However, these had not been finalised when the decision to develop Collins Barracks into a major national museum facility was taken. It is not now intended to proceed with the Custom House Docks proposal for the national museum.

The development of other museum facilities at the Custom House Docks site is a matter for the Custom House Docks Development Authority.
