Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Mayo Commonage.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

210 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason for the delay in the division of a commonage (details supplied) in County Mayo in view of the fact that since 1991, of the three objectors, one has died, one resides in the United States and the third no longer objects; and if he will expedite completion of this matter. [2539/95]

This commonage is held in 1/35 undivided shares which are registered on 34 folios in the Land Registry. Three shareholders objected to the division. There was also a dispute as to the ownership of one of the folios on which a share is registered. In November last year the Land Commission was informed that the objections to the division of the commonage had been withdrawn and it is now seeking to complete the division using voluntary procedures. Any shareholders residing outside the State retain their rights in connection with the land and for the purposes of dividing the commonage they must be treated in exactly the same manner as shareholders residing within the State.
