Vol. 448 No. 8

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Geoghegan-Quinn — The immediate action, if any, that will be taken to allay parental and public concern regarding the incidence of meningitis; (2) Deputy Finucane — The need to provide funding for the reconstruction of Bellygran primary school, County Limerick; (3) Deputy Michael Kitt — The present situation of Irish citizens in Sierra Leone in view of the escalation of the civil war; and the effort, if any, the Government is making concerning their welfare; (4) Deputy Ó Cuív — The need for an upgraded water supply to be provided in Roundstone, County Galway, which is one of the prime tourist villages in the west of Ireland; (5) Deputy Connaughton — The cost to national schools of television licences, which is prohibitive and totally unnecessary, for televisions which are used solely and exclusively for showing educational videos within the school. (6) Deputy Tom Kitt — The need to provide funding for the Irish Wheelchair Association driving school at Blackheath Drive, Clontarf, in view of the fact that this is the only driving school in Ireland for people with disabilities and that, without the necessary funding, it will be closed; (7) Deputy Flaherty — The need to review, in conjunction with the Conference of Religious of Ireland, the level of wages awarded for supervisors under the part time job opportunities scheme which is inadequate and threatens the continuation of schemes such as the Finglas community jobs network which employs 47 people in Finglas; (8) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — The serious staff shortage in the farm development office in Clonmel, County Tipperary, resulting in farmers' grant applications not being processed; the need to provide this staff so that the backlog of applications can be processed and farmers provided with an adequate service; (9) Deputy Sargent — The devastating impact on the Dublin 15 area if schools and youth organisations, including sports clubs, are deprived of the open space at Beech Park Avenue, Dublin 15; and the need to ensure that short term considerations do not cost this area an open space on which it has depended for over 60 years; (10) Deputy Ring — The need to grant work permits to two foreign nationals who are resident in the State; and (11) Deputy Molloy — The need to sanction the improvements to the school transport service, requested by County Galway vocational education committee in respect of students from Lettermore-Lettermullen attending Carraroe comprehensive school.

The matters raised by Deputies Tom Kitt, Ó Cuív, Sargent and Molloy have been selected for discussion.
