Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - Forestry Application.

Austin Deasy

Question:

210 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the difficulty in the forestry application of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford in view of problems in his Department; and if he will have this matter examined. [3141/95]

This applicant is now due to be considered for a second instalment grant in respect of a 3.4 ha reforestation plantation and my Department has arranged an inspection of the site on 14 February in this connection. The matter will be processed as speedily as possible on receipt of the inspection report. My Department has also recently processed afforestation grants under the CAP schemes in respect of two plantations and planting grant payments were issued to the applicant on 17 January and 3 February 1995. Premiums in respect of these plantations have been approved and one has been paid. The other will be paid on receipt of the appropriate fee payment.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

211 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will instruct his officials to conclude negotiations with Fingal County Council regarding the sale of 122 acres for the regional park to serve the greater Blanchardstown area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3142/95]

In September 1992, my Department offered to sell lands comprising 45.896 hectares approximately to Dublin County Council for use as a river park. Despite protracted negotiations between valuers acting for the Department and the Dublin County Council it was not possible to agree on an appropriate price for this land. The newly established Fingal County Council indicated in writing, in May, 1994 that it was not proceeding with the purchase of these lands.
