Vol. 449 No. 3

Written Answers. - Protection for Holidaymakers.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

92 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the impact, if any, the withdrawal of four top travel operators from the Irish Travel Agents Associations will have for those travelling to holiday destinations. [3572/95]

The Irish Travel Agents Association is a voluntary trade body which represents travel agents and tour operators. My Department has no function in regard to the association.

I do not expect that the recent withdrawal from the association of four major tour operators will have any impact on those travelling to holiday destinations abroad. There will be no change in day to day commercial arrangements between tour operators and travel agents. Moneys handed over by customers will be secured as before by the bonds held by the tour operator and by the traveller's protection fund.
