Vol. 451 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grand Canal Restoration.

Pat Upton

Question:

35 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the present position in relation to developments to restore the Grand Canal in the Dublin area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6238/95]

I assume the Deputy is referring to the report of the "Grand Canal Corridor Study, Grant Canal Dock to Lucan Road Bridge, Strategy and Proposals", launched by me in July 1994.

As recommended in that report, I established a task force chaired by Senator Pat Magner, to co-ordinate and monitor the activities of the various agencies responsible for the development of the canal corridor and to provide the necessary impetus for the implementation of the strategy and proposals. To assist the task force in this work arrangements are being made for the appointment of a development officer for the Grand Canal Dock area, and a regeneration officer, as recommended in the report.
