Vol. 451 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dublin Secondary School Places.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

88 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to alleviate the pressure on secondary school places in the Navan Road and Cabra areas of Dublin 7 either by extending St. Declan's school or providing new schools in the Dublin 15 or Dunboyne areas. [6333/95]

I am satisfied that there are sufficient places available in this general area for all pupils entering second-level education in September 1995 and future years.

In relation to St. Declan's school, my Department will be in contact shortly with the management authorities regarding their application for additional and improved accommodation, which is under consideration at present.

In addition to the schools traditionally catering for pupils from this general area, new post-primary schools opened in Hartstown in 1992 and Dunboyne, County Meath in 1994. Also, I have approved the opening of a new school in the Diswellstown area of Castleknock from September 1995.
