Vol. 451 No. 3

Written Answers. - Regional Airports Development.

Tony Killeen

Question:

72 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications his policy regarding the encouragement of the utilisation of spare capacity at Shannon, Cork and the regional airports rather than expending huge sums in infrastructural expansion at Dublin Airport. [6548/95]

My policy is to ensure that infrastructure at Dublin, Shannon and Cork Airports keeps pace with traffic growth.

I have no control over the choice by airlines as to the airports to which they will operate. The question of whether an airine wishes to operate on any specific route is a matter for decision by that airline on the basis of its own commercial judgment.

The regional airports are owned and operated by private companies. Development of the infrastructure at these airports is a matter for the airport owners.
